artesian bores. This coupled with increased irrigation loads on the Canterbury
plains has seen the incidence of damage from aggressive water increase.
Although harmless to humans and therefore rarely acknowledged by council or
rate payers, the corrosive nature of aggressive water causes it to react with
copper, affecting a range of domestic appliances, which have been affecting the
plumbing industry for years.
The heat exchangers in all continuous flow water heaters to date are made of
copper and can develop pinhole leaks from the aggressive water. This causes
the units to leak and the safety systems to shut it down.
All continuous flow units (all manufacturers) are not covered by warranty for use
under certain water conditions - such as aggressive water - as the products are
not designed to withstand these conditions.
